We have compiled a glossary of definitions for regulations, standards and bodies below. These are terms and acronyms frequently used throughout the Fraser Technologies website. These definitions have been designed as simple one sentence descriptions which may clarify some of the technical terms used on our website. The European Chemicals Agency. Manages REACH and evaluates proposals such as the PFAS restriction.
A technical dossier submitted to ECHA proposing a restriction on a substance, including evidence and socio-economic analysis.
ECHA’s Committee for Socio-economic Analysis; weighs the economic impact of proposed chemical restrictions.
ECHA’s Committee for Risk Assessment; evaluates the scientific risk of substances under consideration.
A formal exemption from a regulation for specific uses where no viable alternative exists (e.g. certain precision-cleaning applications).
EU/UK law (originally 2006, updated 2015 and further in 2024) that progressively reduces the supply of high-GWP fluorinated gases.
